"Dr. Golding is a man full of compassion."

Special Recognition

Whom it may concern

My name is Tracy Ann Drain. I am the activities director for the Alexian Brothers Pace in South City, St. Louis. Let me first say that I met Dr. Golding in 2012 working with the Alexian Brothers adult day care. I am aware of the whole ordeal.

Dr. Golding is a very compassionate and generous person. In 2012 during a very emotional conversation with Dr. Golding I disclosed that I had a sewer collapse and had no hot water. I had companies complete an estimate and the repairs exceeded what I could afford. Dr. Golding had a company come and asses the job with hesitation. Not only that, but he paid for the repairs.

This is a main who is genuinely concerned about people and his community. I find it hard to believe that he would be tied up in this situation.

I have tried to contact Dr. Golding on several occasions, but due to his current sitation he appears to be under great stress & is solating. He will always remain a hard-worker and a good man in my eyes and I want him to know.

Again, it is very difficult for me to understand how this came about.

If you have any questions, please contact me. When reviewing this letter i ask to read it with an open heart and mind.

Your Honor

My name is Thelma Hubbard. I live at 38 Deerfield Lane in St. Louis. I'm a licensed Practical Nurse in the area.

I have known Devon Golding for 4 years. We've worked together for 2 of the 4 years. We were friends and colleagues.

I understand the current situation. After speaking with him personally, I can tell you he is very sorrowful and apologetic. He looked very scared, and sad. Not the kind, positive man I had gotten to know over the years. Not easy for me to witness.

Dr. Golding is a very caring, empathetic person who would give his all every day to work and take care of his patients. He showed nothing but love and compassion to each one of them. I know he touched their hearts because they would show the same love and appreication to him. He is still missed and spoken highly of across the office.

I can say that in the time I knew Dr. Golding, he has been nothing but genuine, hardworking, honorable, and trustworthy. I truly find these charges unbelievable of such a decent man.

I write to request a linent sanction.

Thelma

Dr. Devon N. Golding is a primary care physician based in the St. Louis, Missouri. A private practitioner in the areas of general and family health, Dr. Golding also makes house calls to patients in need. He is currently a staff physician and advisory board member at St. Alexius Hospital in St. Louis, where he has earned a reputation for professionalism and dedication to quality service. In the six years that he has been a member of the hospital’s advisory board, Dr. Golding has played an instrumental role in shaping hospital policy and direction, while ensuring the delivery of the highest quality medical care services possible.

Dr. Golding has achieved board certification in a number of key areas of the medical profession, including managed care medicine, family medicine, and disability. In addition, he is a subspecialist in acute psychiatry, a role which has placed him in a position to provide care and treatment to patients with drug and alcohol addictions. Dr. Golding’s combined experience in primary care and addiction treatment spans over 30 years.

A look at Dr. Devon Golding’s roots reveals the dedication and commitment to excellence that has ensured his success in the medical community. Born in Jamaica, Dr. Golding attended primary school at Manning Hill. After studying at St. Mary’s College for a few years from the age of 15, he traveled to England in order to pursue higher education. It was at Sutton Coldfield College in England's West Midlands where he began his medical education, becoming a registered state and psychiatric nurse straight out of college. He also worked as a nurse examiner in England and Wales.

From England, Dr. Golding transferred to the American University of the Caribbean, where he graduated in 1982. This was followed by a residency at the Lutheran Medical Center in St. Louis. In 1985, he completed electives in gynecology and pediatrics at New York’s SUNY.

Even after so many years in the medical profession, Dr. Golding remains passionate in his goal of being of service to the community and helping the less fortunate. This passion was instilled in him by his parents from a very early age, and it remains a core part of his medical service to this day.

Dr. Devon Golding’s focus on servicing the community is apparent in the activities that he undertakes in addition to his professional medical career. He has worked extensively with a number of non-profit organizations in St. Louis, focusing his efforts on developing healthcare solutions aimed at alleviating the medical care needs of the underserved sectors of the African-American community. Dr. Golding has also worked closely with the St. Louis city health department and other civic minded organizations in providing essential services to those in need.

After completing his residency, Dr. Golding worked closely with Benny Gordon, a noted African-American activist in the United States. With Gordon, Dr. Golding worked to improve the living conditions of what is one of the most marginalized sectors of American society. With a partnership goal that primarily included providing affordable healthcare services to as many underserviced community residents as possible, the two helped transform the local healthcare service sector in a truly significant way.

Dr. Devon Golding’s partnership heralded the next phase of career, which involved a shift toward a more decidedly philanthropic focus. It was then that he began a partnership with a local Baptist church in hosting a monthly program called “Ask the Doctor”. Along with the establishment of St. Louis Cooling House, which was a facility that helped indigent seniors, the program helped Dr. Devon Golding provide a wider range of services to the community.

Dr. Golding’s work has not gone unnoticed. He has been recognized countless times for both his professional work and socio-civic activities. Among the organizations that have acknowledged Dr. Golding’s efforts are the American Geriatric Society, the Gateway Society, and the Board of Aldermen of St. Louis. These are only a few of the organizations that have recognized Dr. Golding for his sterling contributions to the medical community over the years.

For Dr. Golding, recognition from such prestigious organizations is a welcome–albeit minor–part of being a member of the medical community. What he values even more than the recognition is the knowledge that he has contributed the better part of his career to the uplifting of the medical practice, and served as a positive force for change in the local community. As Dr. Golding said, “Helping others is my calling in life. I encourage (everyone) to help the poor, the indigent, and the elderly for the (overall benefit) of the community.”
